Starz Animation Toronto, one of Canada’s largest 3D animation studios, specializes in high-end computer-animated motion pictures, DVD’s, TV series, commercials, shorts and visual effects.  In 2007, the studio opened its expansive new state-of-the-art 45,000 square-foot facility in downtown Toronto, where more than 200 of the top artists, producers, technical directors, and programmers in contemporary animation work together to craft offerings like 9, the computer-animated Tim Burton film currently in production for Universal’s Focus Features.

The studio also produced the animation for Universal/Big Ideas’ critically praised 2008 theatrical release, The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything: A VeggieTales Movie, as well as a run of best-selling VeggieTales DVD releases for Big Idea including the recent offering, “The Wizard of Ha’s.”  Other productions have included the 2007 animated feature, Everyone’s Hero (20th Century Fox) and the Aardman TV series, “Chop Socky Chooks.”

The studio stays at the cutting edge of technology by using a combination of proprietary software developed on site and the best, most current hardware and software available.  Starz Animation works closely with local Toronto software companies like Autodesk and Ion to create customized versions of software that optimize quality and efficiency.

As a division of Starz Media, Starz Animation Toronto has partners in development, production, and distribution of entertainment, such as sister-company Film Roman, the Los Angeles-based animation studio that produced the animation for The Simpsons Movie” as well as “The Simpsons” and “King of the Hill”  TV series. Starz Media is also home to Anchor Bay Entertainment and Manga Entertainment, and is corporate sibling to the Starz and Encore premium movie channels, the Overture Films movie studio and Vongo, the broadband movie service. These give Starz Animation Toronto the capability to distribute its programming to consumers however and wherever they want to watch: in theatres, on DVDs, via cable or satellite, on broadcast stations and over the internet in both the domestic and international markets.
