JAFFE SPINS HELIX FILMS
Producer Steven-Charles Jaffe ("Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country," "Ghost") is launching indie shingle Helix Films with two projects: thriller "I'll See You Again" and a 3-D animated feature adaptation of Gahan Wilson's "Eddy Deco."
Jaffe's aiming to make mainstream projects at a lower cost than conventional entries. He's teamed with Gaukhar Noortas and Kevin Foo, who's also chairman of London-based Victoria Oil and Gas.
The banner plans to begin shooting "I'll See You Again" in San Francisco this fall, with Jaffe directing from Angela Armero's script in which a man's obsessive love for the young woman he grew up with goes wrong. Producers include Jaffe's brother, Robert J. Jaffe, Noortas and Mari-Carmen Burgas. Foo exec produces.
Helix is also prepping "Eddy Deco" with Steven-Charles Jaffe and Nicholas Meyer producing and adapting Wilson's illustrated novel about a 1940s-style detective who battles villains who turn into giant crabs and squid. Jaffe will direct, Noortas and Foo will exec produce, and Starz Animation in Toronto will handle animation.
The shingle's also handling international rights to ``Kelin,'' Kazakhstan's official submission this year to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for best foreign language film. The dialogue-free pic, from writer-director Ermek Tursunov, explores arranged marriage in the second century A.D. and will screen at the Toronto Film Festival.
